A little hard to see with the paint still there but car bumped me and I went into a curb coming back from a ride. Tubing is Reynolds double butted steel tubing.
That’s not a dent. That’s buckling. I would not ride it

That ain’t a dent. It’s a bent. Frame’s f*cked, don’t ride it.

You may be able to find someone to fix it, but that tube is hosed in its current state

Not safe. But i would tig weld a reinforcement plate there and it should become better than factory. Well maybe a few grams heavier but oh well.

Most of these “is my bike cooked?” posts are nothing to worry about, but not this one.

Sorry boss it’s borked. Your down tube has buckled and the frame is done.

Second slide: oh dear god…
Sorry for your loss OP

No, that frame is unsafe to ride. A framebuilder could replace the downtube for you, but unless this frame has particular sentimental value it’s probably not worth it to try to save it.

Why would you ride it? The person’s auto insurance just bought you a new bike. And for the sake of the insurance claim, it’s a custom filet brazed Columbus Life frame.

You need a half pipe bandaid laid on top and seal welded on.

I guess if you don’t mind going over the handlebars when it buckles…

I had to do a double take thinking that was aluminum with those huge toothpaste tube welds.
The frame is done, kaput, need new.

Thanks y’all for the advice, I really appreciate it. I might get the down tube replaced by my local steel bike repair shop but otherwise I’ll look around for some new bikes 😍

I’ve ridden worse. Some were even bicycles.

I’m not a frame builder but I’m pretty sure the downtube needs replaced entirely. I wouldn’t ride it.

I wouldn’t recommend you to ride it, but if it’s my bike, I’d just keep riding unless the weld is cracked.
It’s the downtube which primarily resists tensile loads. Tension won’t make buckling worse, because buckling is a compressive failure. Of course, a crack might developer at the buckled section, so keep an eye on any cracks forming.

As long as a crack doesn’t develop I’d keep riding.

Looks like the head tube is dented in too. Frame geometry is way fucked. It will fail someday. When? Who knows.

9 out of 10 dentists would recommend you ride it, so they can go buy a new Trek to KOM on Strava.

The new HT angle must make the handling interesting

Fuck no, I would not ride that unless that down tube (and likely top tube) were replaced.
