Hi everyone,
I recently got a bike with the Shimano GRX groupset, and I’ve been wondering about the silver “button” located above the brake lever. Does it actually have any function? Aside from the hydraulic disc brakes and the shifting, I can’t really think of anything else it would control.

It’s not a button, it’s just a part of lever swinging mechanism.
Self destruction button.
To be activated only short before beeing captured by the enemy.
It’s a vanity dust cover. Lost the microscopic screw for mine and didn’t use it for two years until I finally found said screw.
The silver cap is to let other riders know you have higher end RX800 shifters. Road Ultegra shifters have the silver cap as well.
Its called a name plate and it doesnt do fucking anything
For me it’s the “riding along a busy stroad and i’m bored”-button, rattling the levers for fun. Sometimes like a little drum when listening to some music.
It’s the Good Christ Button.
As in Good Christ just ride your bike.
When pressed, the bike shoots a 30cm metal rod with 10 m/s through the seat.
That’s the “Ejecto Seato” button
I lost mine somehow and haven’t ever replaced it. Mechanics have told me it helps keep dust out but rarely does anyone have a spare to replace it.
That’s your nitrous activator…make a woosh sound when you hit it
activates the motor inside the frame
It’s a turboboost, press it and you gain 200 watts
Its a Dust Cap. I can confirm the shifters continue to work with out them after you lose one in a crash.
Dust cover. My 105 levers are missing one on the left. Just expensive enough where you put off replacing it, but not expensive enough where you have a good enough reason not to. Effects (or affects, can never get it right) literally nothing besides making it look broken.
