There is nothing wrong with rust, it takes several decades for it to affect the strength. Many people restore bicycles that have been lying in the open air for 20+ years

You could try scraping it with a pick. If there are no large loose spots, I’d ride it if it were a 54cm road frame

does look superficial, not bad. what are you using the bike for commuting, racing or moutainbiking?

It’s fine
Not bad at all, surface rust happens quickly but the cromo alloy is engineered to prevent rust from eating the bulk of the material. Surface rust migh act as a protective layer eaven as on some othrr metals like aluminum or silver (not rust but oxydation)

Not bad at all. You might spray some oil and call it a day.

It’s fine… just some staining. If you want to take some proactive action just spray some WD-40 inside to create an oily layer…. repeat every 2 years.

Nothing to be concerned about, but if you live in a wet climate it might be worth spraying Fluid Film or Boshield into your tubes to help protect against further rust.

Mild surface rust. Not an issue

honestly that looks pretty minimal — if you’re riding it in wet salty winter, give it a coat of boiled linseed oil, otherwise just leave it and it’ll be fine

If it bothers you, get some off with oxalic bleach and baking soda. It’s poisonous stuff so be careful and do your research. It helped me get a good amount out. Plug all the holes with dream wrap and plumbers tape then pour the stuff in the head tube. Rinse it out really well then Bosheild the inside, wipe it down, let it run down to the bottom bracket for a few days then clean bottom bracket well.
Folks may think this obsessive but if you have fun doing it and feel satisfied, no problems here.
Laundry dryer brushes are like long hot dog shaped nylon pipe cleaners. Help somewhat.

Thanks for al the replies, it seems pretty mild. I managed to get better pictures of the bottom
That is nothing, no worries at all. That looks just like slight corrosion from air moisture. The problem is when water standard still for long inside a frame.

If you’re super worried and NEED to do something even though you don’t really need to: Take that red nozzle extension from the WD can and put it on a rattle can of paint, Rustoleum apparently stops rust. Spray it down there. Or just a small dose of WD40 once a year will stop the spread of the surface rust you are seeing. I have also seen men pour a quart of thin motor oil down the seat post the whole bottle and then tipping it right back out fully coating errthang but these are the old ways.

Grease the seat post and carry on.
Which rust?
