I know this is dumb.

I use this BMX occasionally as my road bike when my other bike is out of action or just for a laugh, I generally do 10 mile rides on it but I will try and push to see what I can ultimately manage on it one day.

It currently has a 25t chain ring and 9t freewheel, I can do average climbs to an extent on it but I haven’t tried anything difficult I think I would struggle. If I spin very fast I can do around 18-20mph down hill.

Would there be a more optimal way of gearing this? I’ve noticed normal single speed bikes tend to have a bigger chain ring and freewheel sprocket but my bike does have little 20” wheels so guess it will be different? It has 170 cranks but I’m probably going to go 165 to match it up with my other bikes fit.

  1. I mean if you’re not riding street or anything I’d go to a minimum 28t, that’s what I ride on my bmx which is used for everything. Commuting a few miles+ very light skatepark and street spit use. But you might feel better on a 29/30 or even up to a 32.

The seat post is ridiculous. Do you think they make a pivotal seat version? I refuse to go back to railed but they don’t really make many longer seatposts these days

  2. Might as well just go ahead and post this over to bcj yourself, ‘cuz its going to be there shortly I suspect.

I’m picturing your rpm at like 150 and now I can’t get it out of my head.
