Just replaced the brake outer cable on a 2017 Cannondale Synapse and noticed on the old one it was damaged like this, I’m guessing from the angle that the cable enters into the frame. On a second bike of the same model but 2016 (same frame as far as I can tell) I’m seeing the same thing so I’m quite sure it’s not inherent to this bike in particular.

The location of the entry point means the cable will have to flex quite a bit left and right (and having compressionless cables are obviously not very flexible to begin with). I see Jagwire have a POP ferrule which might work but then the cable would go out even further forward and all the factory photos I’ve seen of this model and rough model year of bike don’t seem to have any special ferrules to stop this from happening.
