I bought a new bike and noticed that the spring on the v brake is not working properly. When I try to put the spring into place, it kind of moves by itself out of place. Any advice on how to fix this? the spring on the right side is very lose while the one on the left is properly tensioned (if that’s the right word)

It’s bent backward. You can see the bend toward the bottom. You need to create a bend forward. I’d give the spring a bend forward by tucking it on the inside toward the tire.
You can pull the spring away from the bike, gently bending it a little, so that when you place it behind the tab, the newly increased tension will hold it in place. From there, you can adjust the small screws to fine tune and balance the spring tension between the two arms.
The little square tab that is meant to hold the spring in place will usually have a little notch for the spring to rest in, or the whole tab will be curved such that the spring can’t fall out. Does your bike have either of these? Sometimes I have to bend the tab a few degrees to give it the curve. That, or you could gently bend the spring forward a bit, so that it naturally wants to rest on the tab
