My 5 year old son has recently discovered the joys of riding and has gone from not being able to ride to 20+ mile trips with plenty of energy to spare. Id like to get him into riding MTB with me (im also very new to it even though im in my early 30s) and want to set him up for success. Not really willing to spend more than this but is something like the Riprock worth it over the Precaliber for his 6th birthday? Any advice or suggestions in this price range?

Both more than adequate, tbh. I’d probably go with the specialized as at that price point suspension is so shit it’s nothing more than an extra component to break. It’ll also help teach proper bike control like pumping and be awesome to send on some small jumps…
Definitely go with the riprock 20. It’s most likely more bike than he needs atm, but it gives him an appropriate sized bike that he can grow into as he rides
You want the real brakes. You do not want the fork. Spesh.
Rip rock!
I’d go with the specialized.
I’d like to throw in commencal to this mix.. my 10yo rides one, had a smaller clash too.. and didn’t know about commencal when his was younger then that otherwise would have gotten him a ramones, we started with woom bikes..
but definitely consider commencal
