For a couple of years, I’ve been cycling an old bike that was generously lent to me by a friends father. In my research for something a bit newer, I became obsessed with the idea of a Brompton. I live in London so it felt like it just made so much sense, and I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it sooner. I have sat in the office countless times just waiting for the off peak hours to start so I didn’t have the cycle the 15km home when I was tired and needed to take my bike on the Lizzy line.

I didn’t have the money for a Brompton so I was absolutely buzzing when I realised I could get one on a subscription service. I had read mixed reviews but became so set on this being my next bike that I just had to do it. I started with the £50 per month so I could have a rolling contract without committing but have asked them to shift to the yearly contract of £35 per month now.

It was initially out of stock when I was ready to order but it came back in a couple of days (after I furiously refreshed the page each day), and it arrived one week later. I honestly can’t tell you how beautiful it was when it arrived, it looked perfectly brand new! Even though I believe they are refurbished versions. I have no idea what year this one is but the C line is perfect for my needs.

I am so over the moon with it and have already taken it to restaurants and cinemas. Maybe it’s the old bike I was using before, but it’s so speedy and nifty. The lightness is still surprising me and I’m having so much fun with the folding/unfolding. What a feat of engineering. And I’m breaking so many of my Strava records!

Just spreading a bit of Brompton joy and wanted to vouch for their subscription service if any other newbies are interested. If I do it for 6 months, I believe they’ll give me £200 off a bike that I buy too.

I’ve calling her Daria for now 🤭

Congrats, sounds amazing! The rental scheme looks great … comes with maintenance and theft insurance too, right?! And you really get to try before you own if that’s where you’re headed. Plus you do get a discount if you buy a new bike … probably counts towards  their new refurbished program as well.

Neither program is in all countries so check to be sure.
