How does this headset work? It’s a EC34/28.6 or 1 1/8th straight threadless headset. The last thing that goes on is the compression ring weirdly enough. I always thought the compression ring goes between the steerer and bearing, taking up the free space. I followed the installation process exactly and it even looks identical to the stock images of the headset. The compression ring sticks out of the dust cap. When I put my stem on it, the base of the stem is sitting on top of the compression ring. Am I missing another spacer on top of the dust cap?

That ring normally goes in first, then the headset cover.
The stock image is just how they package the headset.
