Dear friends fellow walkers! Welcome back to Paris! Today we will visit the Rue de Rivoli. One of the most iconic and elegant streets in Paris. Stretching through the heart of the city, it runs alongside landmarks like the Louvre Museum 🖼️, Tuileries Garden 🌳, Hôtel de Ville 🏛️ and the Seine River 🌊. The street stretches over 3 kilometers, from Place de la Concorde to the Marais district, making it ideal for long, scenic city walks. Rue de Rivoli’s name pays homage to the Battle of Rivoli, a decisive victory for Napoleon over Austria in 1797, in Northern Italy at Rivoli Veronese. From 2020 onward, Rue de Rivoli has been one of the main cycling route in Paris. We will see confirmation of this in our video. The arcades with souvenir shops, art galleries, cafes and restaurants occupy a length of about 1 kilometer. They are located from the Place de la Concorde to the end of the Louvre façade. This architectural solution is very convenient for walking in hot and rainy weather. 🌳 Jardin des Tuileries The Jardin des Tuileries was created in 1564 by Queen Catherine de’ Medici as part of the now-destroyed Tuileries Palace. It was later redesigned in the 17th century by landscape architect André Le Nôtre, who also designed the gardens of Versailles. Jardin des Tuileries it became a public park after the French Revolution and is considered the oldest and one of the most important formal gardens in Paris. The garden features symmetrical tree-lined paths, classical sculptures, fountains, and manicured lawns. The garden includes cafés, fountains, benches, and two major museums: Musée de l’Orangerie (home to Monet’s Water Lilies) Jeu de Paume (contemporary art & photography) From the garden, visitors enjoy views of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Place Vendôme, and the Louvre’s glass pyramid. The Tuileries hosts many outdoor sculptures by artists such as Rodin, Maillol, and Giacometti, making it an open-air museum. Rue de Rivoli meets 54 streets on its path. Rue de Castiglione 💎 Place Vendôme Place Vendôme is one of the most elegant and prestigious squares in Paris, created in 1702 by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart under King Louis XIV’s reign. The square features uniform façades with classical French Baroque style, Its octagonal shape is unique among Parisian squares. Place Vendôme is famous worldwide for its luxury jewelry houses. At the center stands the Vendôme Column, erected by Napoleon in 1810 to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz. The column is made of bronze plates from captured cannons and topped with a statue of Napoleon in Roman attire.
