Hey everyone! I just did my first real ride on a gravel bike (just over 30km), and wanted to share some thoughts and takeaways, especially since I’ve been on mountain bikes most of my life.
What is suspension?
Coming from an MTB, riding without front suspension was… a shock (literally). I had to quickly learn how to use my core more to absorb bumps, otherwise my hands started to feel it big time on rougher sections. Still figuring it out, but I can see how it's all about finesse and body positioning rather than relying on the bike to soak things up.
Drop bars: how do I hold these things?
I'm still experimenting with hand positions. I switched between the hoods (I think that’s what the top of the brake levers is called?) and the tops of the bars a lot. Haven’t really figured out when I should be on the drops yet. Any tips on how to transition and what works best for different terrain?
Saddle position makes a huge difference
I didn’t expect this, but even a small change in saddle position (sliding it forward/back) drastically changed how I felt on the bike. Still dialing it in, but it's clear there's a lot of fine-tuning needed to get that perfect fit.
Acceleration blew my mind. On flat, hard-packed roads, I barely had to pedal and I was cruising at 25–30 km/h. Coming from a chunky MTB with knobby tires, this felt like flying.
All in all, I’m super happy with the gravel bike so far. It’s a completely different experience from MTB lighter, faster, and honestly just fun in a new way. Looking forward to exploring more and getting the setup dialed in. Any beginner tips or must-know adjustments you’d recommend?
Cheers!

Congratulations man! If I were you I’d get that yellow sticker on the fork off before you’re not able to anymore. It’s not the most stylish thing and if you’re too late you won’t be able to get it off anymore.
this is funny , i bought my first gravel just an hour ago and i have the feeling it is the same bike? Cube nuroad Pro? and i also experienced the exact same things than you. not sure what i do with my hands as i am used to a flat bar too but i think this will come with time in the saddle .
