Bikepacking from Spain to the UK | Girona to the New Forest โ€“ 1,300km Gravel Adventure

Join me on an epic solo bikepacking journey as I cycle 1,300km from Girona, Spain to the New Forest, UK on my gravel bike.

Starting in the cycling paradise of Girona, I follow scenic gravel trails into the Pyrenees Mountains, then cross into France. Along the way, I explore beautiful French towns and cities including Carcassonne, Albi, Angers, and Vitrรฉ, fuelling up with local food (baked goods…) and soaking in stunning views.

I finish the ride by taking the St Malo to Poole ferry, then follow familiar gravel routes back to the New Forest, a perfect end to an unforgettable trip.

The route takes in:

Mountain top views;
Quiet country roads;
Traffic-free canal paths;
Gravel tracks through forests and farmlands; and
Historic and cultural landmarks.

Wow what a trip.

Whether you’re planning your first bikepacking adventure or looking for route ideas across Europe, I hope this video provides inspiration and practical insights.

  1. Love this, seeing your bike box instantly reminded me of ten years ago when we flew into malaga and when cycling away from the airport I looked back saw the bin bursting with bits of our bike boxes. Plus, my mates box was for a kids bike and he gaffa taped coffee cups over where his bike had burst out, ๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. It always surprises me how much Spain can look like New Zealand, apart from the ancient infrastructure/castles etc my new MTB has a loud hub, it's taking some getting used to ๐Ÿ™ƒ

  3. There are more advertisements than actual content ๐Ÿ™„ Was there an option to choose non-gravel (i.e., paved) roads?
