Seriously, you do you. It is all good but there are diehards who insist they have the right to wheel their Brompton around anywhere they want to. Great if you can get away with it but that is not everyone so they often need to be left out.
Whatever you are comfortable with or live with is all good. It is more important that the bikes enable you to do more than without them. It is a tool for what you want to do.
Personally my Brompton has a finite use in ciommuting to work. It is day in day out the same every on site work day. Always locked up in the site bike sheds. Secure as needed and it is needed as I cannot physically get the Brompton into my office anyway. It does not fit through!! I do not go to cafes with it. I do with my rigid bikes when leisure riding / touring. Those are my tool for that job and I do leave outside shops and restaurants. Suitably locked up where possible. Otherwise always in site with easy access for me to stop any theif.
