  1. WOW – del Toro rode to NOT lose to Carapaz rather than to WIN the Giro – what a crushing defeat with a WHIMPER – zero fight – here could have only been one reaction when Yates passed both of them – grab that wheel – to let it go was suicide for BOTH – you can accept del Toro inexperience but less of Carapaz reluctance – unwillingness to hold off Yates – they both had each other in a headlock with neither willing to let go – in the end they risked NOTHING and LOST everything – amazing how the human mind can work under such situations – CHAPEAU TO YATES – he risked it ALL and WON THE DAY – in his head he said – I would rather attack and blow and lose than just tag along and watch and wait – that takes BALLS OF STEEL – he showed his titanium and is the TRUE CAMPEONE of this Giro – Colle del Finiestre is a BEAST of a climb

  2. Chapeau to Yates but I find it a bit suspicious that throughout the Giro he never showed any real strength in the mountains compared to Del Toro and Carapas and all of sudden he crushes both of them on the final mountain stage? Not just merely beating them but destroying them! Sure, team tactics weren't stellar by any stretch for the runners up and WVA is a beast of a teammate (huge fan) but I find it hard to attribute it all to that. I hope I am wrong because it was an amazing ride both in effort and tactics but just saying. . . (Still jaded from the Armstrong era.)

  3. To let someone like Yates attack off the front like that knowing he has just over a minute was silly. They wrongly underestimated and him paid for it. Happy for Yates, WVA and Visma, well done guys.

  4. Ok… so there were several stages that the first hour was 50km/h… in 2000 that was Armstrong (who was so doped he glowed) average for the prologue that took 8 minutes on a full TT bike. Now that is the first hour average on a multi hour stage on road bikes. It makes me laugh that anyone thinks this is anything approaching clean.

  5. Crazy how sport works out. The stage Froome dismantled Yates only got him to do it years later. I am surprised the big guns didn't show up to the Giro though

  6. I just adore watching WVA in diesel engine mode. Great teamwork and exciting stage! Was rooting for Carapaz and EF Team to get to the top…but the end result was still pretty dynamic with Yates riding so well on this stage to scoop the win. Great recap.
