I’ve had this 2017 Long Haired Grey as my daily cat for about 7 years now. I’m running fancy feast pate in gravy with her and she seems to be performing optimally until recently. I noticed my tires keep deflating recently and way more frequently than ever. I figured it was the cost of riding, until I saw my cat gnawing at my tire. I used to be running tubeless with these tires but they’re so old I can’t seat them on the rim easily so I’ve just been using tubes. Should I spray my tires down with something gross tasting to the cat? Should I buy new tires and go tubeless so it seals itself every time she bites it? I’ve tried talking to her and asking her not to bite the tires, but she does it anyways. I have nowhere else to store the bike other than my apartment. I can’t hide my bike anywhere, she’ll just find it.

  1. I don’t think tubeless is good idea for your cat, the sealant might be poisonous if the cat consumes it. Just spray it with something that is deterrent but harmless to the cat!

do you have space at your place to mount your bike up high up on the wall?

  3. I’ve been able to convince my cats not to do a lot of things by squirting them with water when they do something I don’t like. They find it annoying, and associate doing the thing (chewing on plants, getting on kitchen counters) with getting sprayed. Not 100%, but it’s worth a shot.

Pic for cat tax. (Which also shows that deliberately annoying them by spraying them does not harm your relationship with them)

  4. Leave it upside down so the cat won’t be able to reach it effectively to enjoy biting. Also spray the Bittering Agent you can buy from pet store for dogs and spray on your tire can effectively stop her from biting the tires

I have 2 cats and they don’t do this

I’d set up scratch towers all over your house and 1 big one near your bike area

  6. tire covers…thick ones.

if you cant find thick ones, use pool noodles to wrap around tires .
then use the tire covers to hold them in place

Get some tires witch tougher casing that the cat won’t puncture and run them tubeless. I can’t imagine running a tire so weak that a cat can bite through it anyway, I would probably puncture it every other ride out there

Spray the rubber with diluted ‘*citronella*’ not only will it deter the cat but also horseflies and other bugs.

  9. Just spitballing here.. I wonder what happens if you deflate the tires completely? Maybe they will lose interest? Maybe they have a harder time puncturing a deflated tire?

Also, do they bite the tan tires as much as black tires?
