The Moselle Valley
From Koblenz to Trier We start our roadtrip in Koblenz This is where two main rivers meet at the German Corner Moselle River: we follow it from here to the
ancient Roman city of Trier Ahead is the Rhine river, leading to Cologne
and The Netherlands One of the highlights of Koblenz: the Basilica of Saint Castor That lovely sound of birds singing the song of Spring There are cruises going up and down the Moselle and the Rhine We took the car, as we wanted to visit Eltz Castle,
little villages and wine cellers along the way This is the Moselle-side of Koblenz Let’s head into town. We are walking across the city to what we think is the
most beautiful and unique part. This is “Vier Türne” – the four towers. This spot sparks the imagination The Vier Türme date back to the late 17th century,
built in 1690 during the Baroque period. The buildings originally housed prominent residences and businesses, contributing to Koblenz’s status as an important commercial and cultural center. We’ll now head over to Etlz Castle in the hills
near “Wierschem” You can park your car on the castle grounds, and then there is
a walk of about 1.5 km to the castle. The fairytale castle is build on a hill – a rock – in the a valley carved out by a little river, surrounded by taller hills. This castle is still owned – and perhaps inhabited –
by the nobel families from the past You can visit the castle.
A stunning tour of the halls and chambers. The Mossele valley makes an ideal road trip
for Valentine’s Day and the spring holidays This musuem is separate from the halls and chambers.
A tour of the castle itself is a tip-to-do. We wave goodbye to this stunning castle, and take a little detour from the Mossele river to pay the quaint “Monreal” a little visit. Monreal The Moselle river is part of the Eifel region.
The river hugs the easter border of Eifel Monreal is in the Eifel.
Still close to the Moselle, and worht a visit. It is a small village. Perhaps a city actually, because there is castle. It might have gotten city rights. A picture perfect town. Cochem The entire region is about wine, castles,
village life, and those wonderful half-timbered houses We will bumb into some wine, along this road trip Beilstein Beilstein is really small.
A market square, some streets around it. And a hill behind it. But what a beuaty! From here you can see the “flat” top of the land,
and the valley of the Mossele Through the vines the open river beckons.
“Come and follow me” and we did… We are on the river side road to Bremm:
that famous bend in the river. It is possible to get on top the hills, and see the valley But quite often you’d have to take a long road
around to get to it. It kind of looks like a fairytale.
Winding river, Ruin and vineyards. This is an old wine cellar. We will visit some wine shops, and a wine estate later in this video. The route itself is a sight to behold. A handful of kilometers after Bremm, we found this A wine shop with a little wine museum inside. “Historischer Gewölbekeller” – is “historical
vaulted cellar” in english. They sell mostly wine, but also
liquor and other spirits. This is where we bought some regional
wines: the Mosel wines. They put up an interesting wine museum Tools and pictures of how they used to make wine I think that green “bag” is to
carry the harvest grapes on your back Look at that typeface! Where will the river take us next? Bernkastel-Kues We arrive at Bernkastel-Kues As with so many German towns and villages here,
the half-timbered houses can be found
once you entered the town The town opens up to a square
like a chest to its treasure City hall “Rathaus”.
How lovely. The architecture is stunning.
Throughout Germany really. This is the most famous spot of
Bernkastel-Kues The vineyards touch the old town’s city limits. This is one of the city gates.
A short walk to the heart of the town. Just outside of Bernkastel-Kues we found this wine estate.
And we just had to have a little look inside There are many “Weinguts” along the Mossele,
but this is a wine castle of a different kind A luxury wine castle for tasting and buying
with a personal wine advisor We didn’t buy wine here though.
We just had a look. Let’s follow the meandering Mossele
to our final destination on this roadtrip: Trier Trier The black city gate is the only of four
Roman gates still standing. This gate used to be outside of the city walls. A long road led from this fortified gate into the Roman town. The bells of the Cathedral. What a sound! This is the medieval market square of Trier. The Cathedral. Let’s go inside. The largest heated hall of antiquity, north of Italy. The hall of Roman Emperor Constantine. And next to is, is the rococo palace. One last look before we go… from Koblenz… The fairytale castle Eltz The quaint – red and white – village of Monreal, west of the Mossele river The quaint – red and white – village of Monreal,
west of the Mossele river Beilstein – the hidden gem jewel of the Moselle To see the meandering Mossele,
weaving its way from town to town Lively and lovely Bernkastel-Kues And Trier.

  2. Beautiful video. But you forgot to mention that there are two different churches at Trier Cathedral: the cathedral as a bishop's church (which you showed) and next to it (linked by a corridor) the early Gothic Marienkirche Liebfrauen. Both were built on the ground plan of the Roman palace of Emperor Constantine. Both together form one large complex. (I am from Trier.) —————————————————

  4. Living in Neumagen-Dhron (the oldest wine-growing town in Germany) at the river Mosellle I really nejoyed your video. It's just a pity that you skipped our village.

  6. Brings back such wonderful memories, Beilstein in particular. it looks even better first thing in the morning and later in the afternoon when the day trippers have gone!

  7. Burg Eltz is not just owned by the noble family from the past but in fact the same family since the 12th century, today the 34th(!) generation
I liked Cochem. Lovely view from the castle.

  9. Greetings from Serbia, Moselle really beautiful, you Germans really take care of nature and culture inheritage! Respect because of that! Maybe I will move to your country another reason is my German girlfriend
