My girlfriend and I both want to bike commute to work.
My commute is mostly dedicated greenway.
Her commute is mostly road and sharrow.
I commute.
She drives.

BTW, the Trump Administration has ordered a HALT work on all discretionary grants (RAISE, SSFA [Safe Streets and Roads for All], etc) that have the words ‘bike lanes’ in it.
Thanks, Republicans.

I would have never guessed. I thought we all preferred a 6 lane stroad at 55 mph and a gutter filled with debris.

“According to those behind the study, previous research often relied on cross-sectional snapshots, which made it hard to determine causality. Did new infrastructure cause more cycling, or did cities with more cyclists get better infrastructure?
Ferenchak and Marshall’s use of six years of longitudinal data and multiple statistical models helps answer that question more definitively. Their work supports a causal link: installing protected bike lanes leads to more people commuting by bike—especially in cities that previously had little infrastructure.”

This is one of those things that everyone with critical thinking skills knows is true, but when you need to convince local governement to shell out millions of dollars for this instead of something else, it helps to have more than just vibes to back up your argument.

That’s what I tell my MPO whenever they have public input. Connected, protected infrastructure.
I’ll ride on anything. There’s nothing they need to build for me. But if they want new riders, paint and fragments won’t help.

I gave up cycling for about 15 years, and started again thanks to new bike paths giving me a protected bike path all the way to work (…and showers when I get there).

But will losing that lane not make traffic horrible? How can we drive in only 8 lanes?

BULLSHIT. People don’t not bike commute because of the lack of protected bike lanes. At best, you might get fewer trips by auto, but not commuting (meaning bike only travel).

I would absolutely be just another guy in a car if it wasn’t for the Adelaide and Richmond bike lanes.

I realize this is not possible everywhere but a good trail system that acts like a connecting freeway to everywhere in the city also helps so you don’t have to be near cars when you don’t need to.

But if we build protected bike lanes the drivers who are currently complaining about riders in the lane will complain that it’s a waste of resources.

I have a 22 mile commute which would be on county roads. No shoulder to speak of. Very rough pavement, and speed limits of 35 or 55mph… I want to ride a few days a week but it doesn’t feel at all safe. If I had a true interurban bike path or even a shitty bike lane w no physical separation I would be all over it. If I bus between where I live and work it adds 3 hours to my day 😞

Want more protected bike lanes? Lookup Dutch Article 185. The minute liability is mostly predetermined, everyone will be onboard with better biking and pedestrian infrastructure.

Want a faster, less congested commute? Build more bike lanes.
Want less taxes spent on fixing potholes? Build more bike lanes.

Meanwhile Denver is actively removing bike safety measures because they [don’t look pretty](https://old.reddit.com/r/Denver/comments/1l1f5nx/it_felt_safer_denver_cyclists_worried_about/).
In other news, water is wet
Sad part is, they paid an “expert” to figure that out…
Data point: Omaha Nebraska has zero miles of protected bike lanes and close to zero bike commuters.
