Hi! I have a vintage lugged steel Trek frame (possibly a 1979 710) with a small vertical crack at the seat cluster, just below the slot in the lug. It extends slightly past the lug into the seat tube. I’d like to keep the frame alive and functional, not a full restoration with paint or anything.
Looking for someone with brazing experience (or even a skilled hobbyist) who can seal the crack and possibly reinforce it. just want it rideable and safe for casual use.
If you’re a framebuilder in training, welder, or someone who enjoys this kind of project, I’d love to work something out.
Located in Portland and can travel reasonably to drop it off.
Thanks!

Honestly this looks like you might be able to save it by simply extending the slot through the end of the crack and drilling a 5mm or so hole to prevent it from cracking again.
This is how it is on my 710, and I can confirm it’s not a 1979 710, as I have a 1980 and it doesn’t have all the Trek Investment cast lugs like yours, those came later.
starmichaelbowman in town could fix it. He’d probably just charge an hourly rate to repair it. Worth checking out for sure if you decide against trying to fix it yourself.
