  1. I love that my 1970s viscount kp krisps works perfectly with its 2×5 downtube shifters, doesnt skip a beat and is an absolute unit but….. i hate having to take my hand off of the bar to change gear so i basically keep it in 2-3 so i can climb and ride flat at decent speed so much so that im tempted to either single speed it or just change it to have modern style shifters

  2. Against 20,30 year old conponent? Yes. But sgainst post 2010's component is different conversation. Campag, shimano, sram from 10years ago still better than lower entry grouppo can offer in 2023

  3. Better? My new Shimano ultegra 8100 stopped working 1 minute before my final sprint in national race. It was some sync problem!!!! It never happen with my old Shimano 6800, it just worked well in all conditions … No electronics, less problems. In addition 6800 shift grate!!

  4. No argument here. Just like vintage cars or motorbikes, you can feel the leaps in technological advancement in speed, reliability and comfort. That being said, vintage vehicles including bikes just gives you that different pleasure.

  5. Is this surprising to anyone? People who love old bikes don't love them because they work better than bikes with 50 years of development behind them.

  6. Better FOR???? Better for what? Being a slow turd with a day job pretending to be Lance Vingegaard just pedaling around roads built for cars, that is what clicky shifters are for. But you can do that with a fixed gear and not drastically more imagination.

  7. Depends on what kind of vintage bike you're riding and for what reason. I ride a 40 year old frame with a lot of old and modern parts mixed. I ride it as it's cheap AF and repairing it is super easy. It's not aero at all and I bet I could average 5km/h more, with a modern bike, but I don't race or hunt Strava.

  8. I agree . I’m a fan of vintage bikes for their looks and simplicity and restoration purposes. But yea modern day bikes are so much faster and lighter 😂

  9. Then if this technology leap is so great why am I blowing the socks off my riding mates with rim brakes and mechanical campagnolo super record and why do I feel so satisfied my bikes say made in the USA 🇺🇸, made in Italy hmm 🤔

  10. That's hard, cause my microShift experience was trash. The microShift on my daughter's Woom 4 had to be replaced, it was unusable for her.

  11. I mean if you wanna get better shifters on the vintage bike just get tou'rself a new set of microshift or used shimanos and slap them one. Sure it might not work with the originall look of the bike but if it's for comfort why not.

  12. of course he will promote new technology,.. it will promote sales and therefore profit to the ones who build it. that's why thus video is made. for those who ride retro stuff: enjoy your retro happiness and be happy with it 👍🙏🏻😎

  13. If the vintage bike has original shifters on it, then Microshift may be better. But replace them with mid range modern Shimano and repeat the test! I would love to see that.

  14. And to think of all the accomplishments of
    riders in the past.
    What a spoiled
    generation we have now
Wonder how a pro would do on a vintage 70’s 80’s
against someone on a more modern set-up ??😮

  15. Newer is definitely better, but as someone who was there when that's all there was, I can say we made it work pretty well. You would have to get a feel for it, like playing an old instrument.
