Looking to get into my first bike but wanted a gravel bike since I wanted to do trails and street. I saw this on marketplace and thought this could be a good starting point/restoration. I know very little about bikes but I am mechanically inclined coming from project cars the last 10 years.
I know this is a 199x rockhopper and in his listing he says “the brakes are loose because of the bars”, thoughts?

Nice bike if the price is right. If you get it, please ditch those handlebars. I love MX style bars, but those are way too tall and just look wrong.
Rim brakes are very easy to work on, and you can get a really nice set of V brakes for $20-$30 if needed.
Yes, those Yellow Maxxis DTHs are actually preferred than the newer Brown ones.
Hahaha great bike but get a bmx stem or different bars please that looks so wrong
And idk what’s going on with the brakes, the front brakes are missing but the housing for the rear looks like it’s held in place by electrical tape, definitely not the bars fault. Is the housing stop broken?
Edit: and it looks like the mounting post thingies for the front brakes are were removed from the fork, not a big deal but you’d have to get those in addition to the brakes if you want brakes on the front which I’d recommend
I’ve seen this bike on FB Mplace. lol!
