Hey all, I’m looking to buy my very first road bike and came across this deal. Would love your input before I pull the trigger.
Bike: 2013 Focus Cayo Evo
Price: $800 (seller is firm, no offers)
Condition:
– Full carbon frame (56cm)
– Shimano Ultegra groupset (stock)
– Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon clincher wheels
– New brake pads & cassette
– Tires in great shape, low mileage
– Bontrager Trip 300 wireless computer
– Shimano pedals included
– Crank: 172.5mm | Chainring: 53/39T | Cassette: 11/29T
– Ritchey Comp 100mm stem
– Was serviced before being stored (it’s been sitting in a garage for ~5 years)
They’re asking $800 firm and mentioned the wheels alone are worth $500–600 used.
I’m 5’10”, so from what I’ve read, 56cm should fit me pretty well.
Since I’m still learning what to look for, I wanted to ask you guys for your opinions on this. Is this a solid deal for $800 considering the components and condition? Would you recommend this as a first bike, or should I keep looking?
Thanks for the help!

I cant vouch for the value of the bike but personally I wouldn’t buy because I don’t like his attitude lol. It’s fine to say price if firm but the way he says it makes me think he is having a hard time dealing with the fact that the used bike market (especially for 10+ year old bikes) is bonkers bananas low prices these days. I know it doesn’t make a lot of sense but the sum of a used bike’s parts will often far exceed the market value of the complete bike.
Hi, I own a Focus Cayo from 2017. Really nice bike. This one is older, I think it is the 2012 model. It was around 2000 new so with some nice wheels it could add up to 800. But personally I wouldn’t ride these wheels. The rims are so deep that with a little bit of side winds you will have a hard time keeping your bike on the road. I would skip this one. Or pay less for the bike without wheels. Offer him 400 for the bike without wheels and get yourself some nice wheels instead.
It’s a fair deal. He’s right about the wheels. The question is if you want a rim-braked racing bike with no tire clearance and really tall gears. It’ll be fast, responsive, quite stiff, probably too long in the current configuration, and a bit of a handful in crosswinds. It’s intended for a paceline, not a bike path. But it is worth the asking price.
Yeah its a good deal fair enough its old but its nice bike. People will mention its rim brake so the moment you go down a hill you will die apparently but rims are very good still. I ride 25mm tyres too and they are lovely. Enjoy it looks a brilliant buy.
I owned this bike with di2 back in the day. Loved the way it rode, but those wheels are a deal breaker for me, or buy it and sell the wheels to someone who wants to look cool. Wheelsets for a his bike are fairly easy to find for low prices.
It’s worth about that, but there have been a ton of changes in road bikes since this was made. Call outs in the comments about the brakes, tire clearance, and wheels are very valid. If you’re learning, it’s not a bad starter, but don’t be surprised if this bike gets relegated to the trainer assuming you take to the sport.
