Just looking to buy a new bike to use as a daily commuter and maybe occasionally try do some trails and small jumps on
I’m between buying a used norco fluid Ht 2 2023 for 1000 cad
Or just buying one of the new giant talon 1s 2025 for 1200$ cad +taxes

Giant – https://www.giant-bicycles.com/ca/talon-1-2025
Norco – https://www.norco.com/bikes/mountain/trail/fluid-ht/2023-fluid-ht-2/

I think the big upside to the giant is that if I don’t like the medium frame I could go for a small or a large, the used norco is a medium and I’d be getting them to drive 35km to deliver and if it’s uncomfortable I’d feel bad sending them back even if I still pay for gas

I’m about 5’7 but I have a funky chunky stubby body so sizing stuff can be weird but I’m in the size range for the medium norco so I dont think it’ll be a problem.
As a final note, I’ll probably end up putting it at least trying to put a x2 or a 38-42 tooth chainring on the front because there’s not a lot of hill where I live. And the norco frame looks like it would be less accommodating for a larger chainring but I have no clue how to find out if it would work or not without trying it in person
What would the internet recommend?

The 1x drivetrain has a better gear ratio and range for climbing, 2x just has more overlapped gears theres a reason only cheap bikes come with them.
That being said I’m biased to the norco, I have one of my own and in factory spec it’s capable on road and trail.
