Decided to head out on the Tabeguache Trail over memorial Day weekend. Not a lot of info online about it, most of what I found was via the Grand Loop website (water sources). I started in Grand Junction, took the Bustang to Montrose for $11 including my bike, then rode the trail back to GJ.
After finishing, I've got mixed feelings. It's basically a super torn up jeep trail that people have decided to bicycle, the trail is absolutely not designed for bikes and tends to be super steep, loose and chock full of basketball sized rocks.
I rode the trail over four days, although I got a super late start on Friday so only managed 8 miles before camping. I carried 6 liters of water storage but mostly only had 2-4 liters on me, there's plentiful water at the higher elevations. Day two was absolutely brutal, it took me 11 hours to manage 38 miles and 5700ft of climbing. Day three was 59 miles and 5100ft of climbing, a lot now time spent in the saddle and less pushing. Day four was a blast.
Overall not sure I can recommend the route unless you're after some serious type 2 fun.
