I feel like Shimano would just replace it on good faith regardless of warranty.

Does shimano make the hub? I’ve broken almost every cheap rear hub this way.

  3. The question you have to ask yourself is if you want the same exact hub you just broke under normal conditions, or if your use case requires a more robust component

  4. Like many companies, pawls and freehub bodies are excluded from warranty in Shimano’s warranty terms:

“This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear. Wear and tear parts may be damaged as a result of normal use, failure to service according to SHIMANO recommendations, and/or use or installation in non-recommended applications. **Wear and tear parts include**: Bearings, Corrosion, Dust seals, Free hubs, Driver bodies, Pawls, Spokes, Sprockets, Wheel braking surfaces, Tubeless tapes and decals.”

Shimano *might* be willing to replace on good faith, but you can buy this entire hub complete for under $50 at retail. This is literally the cheapest MTB hub Shimano sells hub only – consider rebuilding your wheel with a more durable hub. You could buy an XT hub for under $100 USD easily through your shop.
