I just cut my Izumi chain, and I’m wondering if I cut it at the wrong end. The chain link only seems to go into to one end, but not the other end in the pictures shown. Does the chain link only go into that particular end (meaning I have to cut the chain again to match the end)? Or do I have to force the link in somehow

Big link on outside (which includes the master link). Smaller link on inside. It looks like you’re trying to put two big links together. Does not compute.
Cut incorrectly
If the cut away is the one on the right of the picture then yes you cut it wrong.
If your cut chain is the one on the right side it is cut right, you just need to connect it with a chain link.
If using a quick link, both open ends of the chain need to have the same inner link with the barrel. A quick link will not work with the outer links in place.

For example. Your quick link can be used to connect the two circled links.
This is 1/8 inch chain for ss it should have plate and locking plate in the kit
You cut it corectly if using a connecting pin but wrong for a connecting link.
