So I have just purchased some new cranks (federal vice V2 and BSD substance) and I purchased an odyssey BB (pictured) and there’s no drive side dust cover. I messaged who I purchased it from (source) and was told that it’s normal not to have one? I was perplexed as the other 6+ BB’s I’ve purchased have always had a dust cover for both sides. Does anyone run their bike with only the non drive side?

I’ve never seen a set that doesn’t come with a drive side cover, nor have I ever gone without one.
Yeah I’ve got these, the sprocket covers the drive side, so it looks fine. I presume the covers on the actual bearings do the real dirt blocking.
it’s totally ok, your bearing is already sealed
you can also use your old dust cover if you want
My odyssey kit never had one either. I hardly use the drive side cover anyway. Chain alignment is better without it.
They don’t come with them on Odyssey BB’s.
How’d you get your cranks on and off?
I’m glad I saw this. I’ve been riding around without a driver side dust cover and thought I was filling my bearings with dust as I wait for my new kit to come in.
Its just fine.My drive side also had no driveside dustcup.I removed it for a better chainline
I was stoked when I got my odyssey bb, paired with thunderbolt cranks and a new Sunday frame and the big odyssey spacer was too big so can’t use it 🤣
I worked at Odyssey for 8 years and they said it’s cheaper to not include it, and honestly shouldn’t be used if you’re trying to reach optimal chain alignment. Some would say the drive side dust cover would prevent dirt/grime/debris but it also traps it in a lot of ways too. Functionally it’s not needed, but sucks that Odysseys MSRP price isn’t cheaper on the BBs in tandem…
There is not one on mine
I can’t get the drive side dust cap to work properly on my frame as the rear is so wide and there’s hardly any sprocket clearance for 28t. joys of street frames
I’ve never gotten a drive side cover with an odyssey bb. Like someone above said. It’s more for looks and a “bearing hider” than anything. Just takes the place of washers if you need them
All bbs are the same pretty much. They all do the same thing it’s just some come in different colors and cost more because of the name. Jet BMX bearings do the same thing Profile does the only difference is one costs 20.00 and one costs 60.00
I was going to say they’re sealed bearings aren’t they?
