I got this rusty GT for around 50 pounds and its about to get a complete make over.

U-brakes would be earlier than 1996 and probably earlier than 94.
EDIT: Actually, it’s the 1995 Lady Outpost Trail in Pearl Teal. You can see in the 93 catalogue that GT kept the U-brakes for the ladies’ model (but not the men’s) the 94 catlogue is hard to make out, but the German 1995 catalogue shows a bike with U-brakes and in about the right colour: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/archive/1995-gt-german-catalogue-and-pricelist.611/
