  1. Using the other end of the tool will get the curve of the tool to fit better with the curve of the locking.

    As for getting the tooth of the tool to fit into the notch, it looks like you’re going to have to do some filing to widen the notch.

    Just get the correct spanner wrench. I wouldn’t file anything on the bike to make that improper fitting spanner wrench work.

    No, just a bad tool design. Hook spanner should have a sharp angled tooth, not a straight cut like that. Hozan C-205 is the gold standard for the bicycle industry. I like my own vintage hinged AMF hook spanners. You could always grind this one to fit though.

    Do you own a file? That tooth on the spanner is close but needs a little material taken off.
    Or buy a new one. Whichever seems easier to you, I guess.

    Yes, you bought the wrong wrench, but you can easily remedy the problem with a file
