I forgot to mention they are also looking for a decent tire clearance to get into some gravel, so it checks that box as well.

It looks like it wasn’t ridden much. Crappy pedals make me think they never took the hobby seriously enough to ride a lot but I could be wrong. I’ll let someone with better knowledge answer you but $500 seems decent if it’s as clean as it looks. I might still offer $400 just to see but $500 seems fair. Better this than to pass on it and end up with a 12 year old bike for like $300 if that makes sense.
