Just wondering what people's thoughts were on this 2017 banshee prime someone offered to sell me for $700. Is fallen off a bike carrier and got a little banged up but just cosmetic. Or should I spend more money and get something more modern?

Hell no. Too old.
I’d probably f*ck with that but I also have a soft spot for banshees. Modern enough geo I’d say. Unless you’re a pro level rider the capabilities of this bike will still exceed your skill.
$700 isn’t bad. If the suspension has been semi-recently serviced I think it would be a fun ride.
Nice suspension. Frame is pretty beat up though. Offer $600, split the difference?

based on the parts I’m seeing, and assuming that they’re serviced regularly, absolutely.
