With the recent release of Paul’s square taper cranks, these sound like a viable option to replace the stock parts with something strong and light.

As a “husky gentleman” I’ve had some issues with cranks in the past on a single speed pushing watts to get my butt up hills. I’ve done the impossible and snapped an arm on an omnium, so I’d like to preempt that.

Has anyone looked into the configs to see if they’ve made a set that matches the brompton chain line?

  1. It’s not so much the cranks that matter for the chain line, as the BB you use with it.
My 2¢ is that I wouldn’t use an untested crank, if you’re trying to get something ultra durable.
I would lean towards something forged rather than just CNC milled if you want the best strength.
Middleburn has a loooong track record.

  2. Is it 1995 again? People buying expensive purple anodized billet bike parts because they think they are better than stock?

What’s next? Kooka coming back? Is Klein going to make a 2 inch threadless Brompton headsets? Speed holes in the frame? Titanium skewers? One inch long single finger brake levers?

you would adjust the chainline by selecting the right length bottom bracket spindle, right? these cranks do also have a little bit of fine tuning
