Just received a new Ultegra 6700 cassette, which came out of the packaging as you see. All stamped Shimano, looks new, so I don’t suspect repackaged or counterfeit. Now, I haven’t bought a cassette in a LONG time, but it was cable tied, not just, well, like this. Is this typical these days?

I think Shimano went plastic free in most of their packaging a couple years ago, so that might be the reason it came without zip ties, I’ve personally never bought a brand new cassette from them so I don’t know if that’s the “normal” packaging
Mine usually came on a little plastic spindle but this doesn’t particularly surprise me. I don’t see a reason to be concerned.
Sorry to bust your bubble but it having Shimano stamped on it is no guarantee its a genuine Shimano infact I don’t think I have ever seen a fake Shimano item that didn’t have Shimano stamped in it.
Shimano went full plastic free with all of their packaging some time ago so there will be no bags, cable ties etc just the component in a box. Where did you buy this from?
Part of the fun of installing a new cassette is having it come all to pieces and then getting to figure out how to get all the cogs and spacers back into the right order and orientation. They’re just helping you get started with the fun.
