I have recently fitted Thunder Burt Super Grounds (2.25 Front / 2.10 Rear) to my 2024 Giant Revolt Advanced Pro 0. Here are some initial thoughts:

1) Sizing – I haven’t measured the exact width but the tyres do seem on the narrow side mounted on my rims (Giant CXR1, 25mm int width)

2) Clearance – plenty front and rear

3) Set up – no issues with tubeless set up. Easy to fit on rims, beads seated and sealed straight away with very little pressure loss between rides

4) Pressures – I have been running 25 psi rear / 20 psi front

5) Conditions – 70/30 pavement/gravel mix of hardpack bridleways, singletrack and loose gravel

First impressions are great. BRR results seem to stack up in reality and the tyres are super quick. Once up to speed they are fast on all surfaces. They lack a bit of grip on loose gravel but that’s expected. I would not run them in wet/muddy conditions but in the dry they are the quickest tyre I have used.

I was sceptical of the MTB tyres for gravel / Dylan Johnson hype but I can honestly say I get it now. The extra width and lower pressures provide comfort and the tyres eat up rough terrain. On pavement they feel a little reluctant to accelerate but they hold speed incredibly well. I have been smashing PRs on Strava and even getting close to my road bike times on some segments.

I was previously running Pirelli Cinturato Ms in 45mm, which I like a lot, but the TBs feel much faster and more comfortable. I also rate the Caracal Race and would happily run as a set and forget all-road tyre and although I am excited about the release of the 45mm version in June I don’t think I will rushing to swap the TBs as they are so much more capable on rougher ground.

  1. Fantastic-Shape9375 on

They’ll blow out soon! Mine measured around 49/50 mm when newly mounted and were 51/52mm after a few days. 23mm internal rims so I’d bet you’ll be 52/53mm

  2. May i ask what size is your bike/ the tailfin bag?

I have the same model and looking to get the wedge frame bag as well

  3. I‘m highly tempted to install those on my Gravelbike. I run a Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph on my hardtail and they feel snappy and supple as hell. Plus the tubeless install was really easy.

  4. I was deciding if to get either RaceKings or Burts for my 650b wheels. Just ordered the Kings. But Burts are next on my list.
