  1. Wow that looked intentional….did they end up taking that turn or continuing straight?

Terrifying, so glad you’re ok. Make him pay for a complete inspection of your bike and any damage it uncovers.

Not intentional, I’ve had this happen a few times before. What I think happened is the driver isn’t experienced or hasn’t encountered an adult cyclist before, beyond a slow-moving Fred. He underestimated your speed and overestimated his ability to overtake you. Most drivers don’t realize that cyclists can, for a short while, accelerate faster than their cars can.

  4. I think it was too stupid to be intentional. My best guess is they were on the phone and completely oblivious until they were about to hit you.

As another suggested make sure to get the bike inspected on their dime. Honestly. Its almost like you have to report it and they should get a ticket. You were lucky as hell it wasn’t worse.

  5. Looks like a RH drive car – you could have been in his blind spot behind the A pillar. He did seem to put his hand up apologetically. I don’t think it was intentional anyway, just not paying enough attention

  6. Man, if I had a nickel…

I’m convinced that car brains think they are ALWAYS faster than bikes, so you just need to get in front of a bike (because they will slow you down and ruin your day) and then do whatever you need to do.

Had something similar where a guy cut in front of me only to have to stop for a pedestrian so I hit his car from the rear. He got out and had to examine his bumper thoroughly to make sure I didn’t damage it.

Not sure how I did it, but I didn’t say a thing and just waited for him to say ANYTHING. He didn’t and got back in his car.

As best as you can, listen to what is going on behind you, you can usually hear the tires of a vehicle.

Before you come to a turn-off, look over your shoulder (or under your arm). Check for drivers who are coming up and might try to cut you off. Obviously don’t swerve into the road when you look.

I’m not blaming you – that was totally their fault.

Just curious why you didn’t pick a lane and rode the line. Is that common knowledge among cyclists? I’d never bike on the street regularly since I don’t wanna get run over so I don’t know

I think they’re just really bad at estimating speed and assumed they would complete the turn before you were there. most drivers are functionally semi-sentient at best.

Yikes I hope you are okay! 😳

Where is the camera mounted btw, i need to get one of these.

  11. I have that same light. It’s great but morons will be fucking morons in their 2 ton cocoons

  12. Anyone who manages to do this shouldn’t be on the road, simple as. Cars are too dangerous to allow for this sort of negligence. There is zero excuse for inattentiveness

Drivers are fucking clueless at best.

They say ride your bike like you’re invisible. I ride my bike like everyone is out to kill me.

    Sorry this happened to you.

It sure looked intentional. But as others said, it’s almost too obvious and overt to be intentional. Fuckwit was probably on the phone or something. This shit scares me so much. Hope OP and bike are okay!

  15. 100% their fault obviously. I can’t fathom it being an accident because how? But the immediate wave makes it not seem intentional so idk.

But unrelated, you can’t ride on the lane divider like that. It’s illegal (in most if not all countries) and dangerous. It’s not even like it was a thin bike lane, you could taken the whole right car lane but you still chose to take both car lanes?

  16. Yeah, that’s kind of insane. I don’t know if I would have been able to keep a cool head if somebody would have pulled a move on me like that.
