Van Raam Cycling Adventures with Dundee Dragons | All Ability Cycling

Our Fast Aid product specialist Jason was out on Saturday with the Dundee Dragons at Dawson Park in Dundee showing them the new Fun 2 Go tandem cycle from Van Raam. The Dundee Dragons have recently purchased a fleet of Tomcat Trikes from Fast Aid and Jason took this opportunity in his own time to show them the new Van Raam product.

all right Grim a little video for Kevin so you can see what’s going on with this new van ram fun to go uh so we’ve got the side by side twin seater uh single steering at present that we have it there so we’ve got the pilot side we’ve got the passenger side uh we’ve got a dual set of gears on this as an option as well so they can have the independent gear changes if necessary uh parking brake which is just a nice simple on and off you can do it witha Pinky is that light to operate so that’s that’s great we got hydraulic brakes leading down to the trike as well um so we got disc brakes to the front um now nice thing about it is there’s like no no uh no stepping over it’s just walked through so easy transfers you know even for the pilot the pilots of limited mobility and that’s going to be beneficial as well underneath the seat just pull that lever it’s a light touch and the seat will slide two and fro and with this brand new design designed up from the ground model uh that van RAM have done um theyve basically made the seat come closer to the pedals by 4 in which is a massive difference um so it means that you know you can get much shorter Riders um so probably pretty good for you know kids and teenagers and getting them to actually access a trike like this without feet dangling um you obviously can fit foot accessories as well you know like foot plates quick release foot plates um leg supports you know calipers sure all of that as well uh back supports uh quite comfor you can fit accessories like you know a cane holder um you can even fit a wheelchair holder you can even have a basket on the back you can even have a trailer another version of this on the back and you have you know four people cycling together uh lights Incorporated um optional uh things like uh seat belts as well um little lever here for rotating seats to make transfers easy so if you got somebody in a wheelchair here banana board lift up one armrest leave the other armrest down we have then side transfer across and we got somewhere that we can use to L and then once we’re in bring that down and we can maneuver ourselves across the old model they used to go up together but the new model they’re independent which is far more flexible uh oh and facts how like this that moves really well wa and we’ also got the ability to slide this seat to and frow as well and to get the correct reach for the pedals reach the handle bars gear change here absolutely great there’s another um aspect to it which is here uh it’s not actually fitted on this exact model but you can see the see the housing for it so there would be a lever gear change lever here now that link is an Interlink so when the pilot pedal he can encourage the person as a passenger for their feet to reciprocate round as well if they’re not able to do it themselves and through that pattern of movement they can learn from from that one they can get passive exercise but two they can actually learn um if it’s a cognitive understanding they can actually pick up uh sort of cause and effect and um I’ve seen it time and time again where people hav’t pedal independently with a bit of practice bit of training they then start to engage and they they sort of take it on um and for those who who don’t have independent leg mobile ization that that offers that as well so that’s something you can switch on and off which is super easy again you know there’s nothing to step over so transfers are simplified and again just rate and disembark which is lovely uh battery pack sitting here uh power level so we got a full charge but so it tells us what a power is here but better than that it tells us up here on the on the on board computers this is all brand spanking new for this model so power on and off you can switch your lights on and off it’ll tell your battery charge your speed tell your range range is 82 mile on this which I’m going wow and that’s just the standard battery you can get an extra capacity battery or you could double up on two extra capacity batteries there’s quite a few options with batteries the actual electric motors on these are are designed in house and built in house by Van Ram um so they’ve been doing that for a lot of years so they know their Motors and they know their Motors suit really well you can also you can also clock your mileage as well so you got a trip on there so you got a little B on board computer and your total mileage so that will you’ll never be able to delete that that’s always going to be there which is nice for your records but individual records you can record you know what what some’s done plus and minus is obviously just going to change the power output which is going to go from one to three one two and three so three being the most powerful one being the least and then you’ve got Hill assist start so if you press and hold that button it will initiate driving forward so if you’re starting on a hill press that button till you get your feet rotated round and way you go um you can also fit mounting gears if you got a lot of hilly terrain um so for example in Isa if they were to get one they should get it with mounting gears because of what they’re going to climb round and about the uh distilleries so what we’re going to show you now is a quick uh clip I’m just going to take handre off turning circle is incredible on I’m going to press the start button the assist button don’t have to Pedal but it’ll just power me I started myself but it literally turns into on on an axis pedal backwards after you’ve stopped that is electric assist going backwards it’s not it’s it’s chain driven at that point it’s just the electric water kicking in from a sensor which is sensing the pedals are going backwards uh and of course once I’m trying to initiate pedaling to start if it’s a bit hard and you’re pedaling for two and the person here’s your passenger is not going to be pedaling they going to be passive press the button and away we go and then it start to pedal and that’s us uh X speed Shimano Hub as well as standard so maintenance three um everything’s Absolut absolutely enclosed you can’t even see a chain on this thing no it’s absolutely enclosed um remember they’re um the the chains are very strong uh they’re very large chains compared to a lot of bikes um so it will last thousands of miles without any maintenance required um and they’re fully enclosed you know to protect them from corrosion M uh and because they run from one sprocket to another sprocket and they’re not changing from sprockets like on a cassette that you have on a regular geared bike it’s straight line it’s there’s no deviation so you’re not getting any adverse camber on the Chain any adverse way and hence that’s why it will last so so so long so yeah you should have years of minimal maintenance I should say but if you do need some then an amazing piece of Kit there Jason absolutely amazing thank you for that you’re welcome
