  1. My buddies and did a big gravel ride not too long ago and got to thinking about how little braking was occuring. I started looking around for fixed mtb’s and saw [this picture](https://www.reddit.com/r/FixedGearBicycle/comments/1jfzhob/i_need_this_i_want_this/). I was hooked. It seemed talismanic. I have been hunting for a GT frame ever since and scored this sanded frame for $20.

But yeah, I’m not asking you what parts you would use for a fixed gravel xbike. I’m asking that, if given the opportunity and money wasn’t an issue, how would you build this up? I’m just trying to post something that will generate more convo than “nice bike,” although I have to say GT made a cool frame here.

    edit: Ideas so far

    – cheap stem, sanded and painted to match whatever paint job I do on the frame.

    – FSA orbit headset

    – velo orange eccentric bottom bracket but if someone knows an eccentric square taper BB I can use my sugino 75s

    – Pay u/bipo1ar to build me a fork just like [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/xbiking/comments/1iifq95/free_fork_for_testing_and_marketing/) but without the mounting braze ons and with a flat mount for disc brakes, and maybe a little more trail.

For an aluminum frame, I’m not doing a cro-mo fork. I think cro-mo deals with impact much better than 7000 series aluminum (7005) and.. I don’t think it is the greatest match in materials (fork to headtube). It has to be suspension upfront for me, regardless of factory spec. If anything, to preserve that beautiful 7005 (I’m assuming) GT frame.

I’d run the meatiest cantilever brakes, because I find them to be functionally and aesthetically nice.. Also era appropriate.

Bars and stem would be BMX.. Old GT, Dyno or S&M would be on my radar, Probably 6061 T6 or cromo.

quality groupset,,,, OG 26″ inch setup, new GT decals. I’d definitely try to pay homage to 80s and 90s race / freestyle / MTB GT considering the company has seen better days.

  3. Fox 40, pink tassels, spinergy wheels, and a brooks saddle pointed at the fucking moon is what I would do 🙂

  4. I’m gonna cry. Had a 1991 gt avalanche that I bought new in college. Raw aluminum ball-burnished finish. Rigid fork. Deore xt all around. I rehabbed and cleaned it up for one of my brood, and 2 days later it’s stolen. I love the little bastard, but dammit, how many times do I have to tell him to close and lock the garage!?! 😭

Chris King headset, white industry cranks, exotic fork, Paul mono lites 27.5 wheel set and a nice ritchey gravel drop bars. Thompson stem and seat post. Flight saddle.

flat bars. canti brakes. double crown bomber on a 29+ front wheel with a 26 road tire on a single speed wheel in the back. fuck it, let’s ride.

Holy shrimp paste how do y’all strip so good? I’d never have the patience which is why I’ve never done a repaint

Araya MP-22 rims laced up with a set of “retro” high flange BMX hubs to start.

  9. I think the only true xbiking thing would be, even with all the money and time in the world, throw whatever you have on this thing from the parts bin and go shredding

Zaskar? These were so incredibly cool and light when they came out. Polish + clear coat, vintage Manitou front shocks, black components or anodized AL components in the color of your choice.
