With a change in office situation in 2021 I sort of fell off the Brompton radar. Eventually selling the daily hack* and just keeping the Sunday best Superlight. Looks like I'm going to need to start commuting into old London town again for at least a couple of days a week (yay! Southern Trains… again). Thus the process of turning my fashion accessory** into a more useful commuter begins.
Obviously, mudguards and front block. How long the Schwalbe Ones will last is anyone's guess, but will deal with that when I get to it.
But having been out of the fold for a while I'm not up on all the groovy stuff that's come out since '21. There's new groovy stuff, right? There has to be?!
– I sold all my bags a few years back, so need a new one. Preferably a Backpack this time, but only really need the space/size of a roll-top. Borough possibly too big. Any new firms popped up I should be looking at?
– The quaint Noughties spec AAA battery rear light is garbage. Anyone know of anything that'll fit the stock bracket?
– I am dimly aware that Brompton has in recent years gone full Lifestyle brand – got an email about a Barbour jacket a while back… which short of full motorbike leathers is probably the last bit of clothing I want to wear on a bicycle. But that said, anything worth looking at?
*2017 S6R, which was brilliant. Then a 2020 M6L electric, which was Alfa Romeo levels of electrical gremlins. And too heavy. And a bit rubbish tbh.
**Before you sharpen the pitchforks I liked Chpt3 before the silly hype and scalping around the V3. And I got it new from Brompton at RRP as I was fortunate to know someone connected to the project.

welcome back! what bag is that on the handlebar?
Since then CHPT3 are no more! So it’s even more of a collectors item !
There is a Knog rear light which can mount to the rear light bracket – and USB rechargeable and a B&M 2C permanent – also rechargeable
I’ve clearly missed something. What’s the CHPT hype? I have the V1.
For commuting I prefer a messenger bag to a backpack as back gets less sweaty,
