My wife has a 2016 Fargo with QR wheels. I’m not exactly a bike mechanic but seems like I can replace these drop outs for modern ones and a new fork to allow for a through axle conversion. Has anyone done this?
I think wheel spacing is going to be a concern, even if the TA dropouts would fit. QR rear spacing is 135mm and regular TA spacing is 142mm. I too am curious if this would work.

If Salsa made replacement dropouts for that frame that were TA compatable which as far as I am aware they don’t it wouldn’t help you with the fact the hub would be physically wider than would fit in the frame.
With steel frames you could open the rear end out using a process called cold setting but unless its done to precise tolerances using a frame jig all you achieve is converting a perfectly good bike into a bicycle shaped piece of scrap.
