Manufacturer’s rec was 40mm max, I went with some 44s after measuring no less than 50mm at any frame point. They measure true enough (43.5). I’m happy i went wider because the difference from stock 35s to 44 is wicked. Rides and controls beautifully and I have yet to get enough mud or rocks stuck in normal wet conditions to create a problem.

I just need to shave down my stock mudguards if I want to fit them with these tires. Those mudguards only fit with the 35s anyways, so either way I’d be shaving them even if I went with 40mm tires.

You will eventually ride in mud and sand your fork down to the carbon.

Also the thunderos are awesome. my only issue with them is thta after 2.5k they have so many holes that seep through

It’s gonna rub at some point. If it were my bike I’d definitely stick to 40s

I’m gonna be honest chief that doesn’t even look tight. I’d send that everyday. Rubbing is racing after all!

  4. That’s not risky at all, especially on an alloy frame. I say go bigger!! 😆

Dang, mfg was playing it REAL safe with that 40mm recommendation. Clearance looks good, send it 🤙

  6. I did what you’re doing. A couple things I would watch for.

A lot of manufacturers assume you’ll be riding in muddy conditions. So they allow 4 to 6 mm on each side. If you’re nowhere near mud like me, you can squeeze a lot more tired than what comes across in the manual.

Yes, your tires fit now. But they will expand with friction of hitting the ground and in warmer weather. When mine expanded, I rubbed off some of the paint of my frame. Then I had to fix it with some nail polish.
