Hi all. Just got this bike yesterday, and after driving home decided to try it in my parking lot (dumb idea maybe not to try ot over shops lot, ik). The shop held the bike for a little while to 'check before leaving the shop' so I was thinking I was alright, but on the lot I felt it was low on air and my wife screamed me to stop, the tire was almost flat… that was just late in the night already.
After seeing it today It was only 9.5 psi, while rated for 55 max and had this lines over the tire. Will this diminish my tire lifespan? Is this risky to ride on? Should I ask for the shop to replace them?

Thanks in advance for the help

Tldr: the shop gave me the bike flat out of it, after testing it the tires got marks, are they okay to use?

I’d take this bike back to the shop you bought it from. It’s dangerous to ride on a tire with such low pressure. You’ll ruin the tire and perhaps ruin yourself in a crash. I’d get my money back and go to a more reputable bike shop.

I’d take it back just because they sent you home with low PSI. to me that is so basic that I wouldn’t trust the rest of the assembly.

  3. I’d take it back and have em replace the tire and do another check on it. I wouldn’t write the entire shop off over one mistake like this. If they shrug you off when you go back in, I would though.

Mistakes happen, this is the busy season when a lot of shops hire new employees.

  4. Just put more air in and off you go. Remember, max 55 psi is the tires rated maximum pressure, before the tire is likely to burst, not the default you should set it to.

Pump it to 40 psi & ride it. Always check pressure with finger squeeze before each ride, only takes a second. X marks are indeed a sign of riding on low psi but the shop isnt going to replace it for free. Just pump it up & ride it.
