Hey everyone!
I recently picked up a 1989 Specialized Stumpjumper and instantly fell in love with its bold '90s color scheme – a mix of aqua green and bright fuchsia that really pops. The bike was in decent shape, but I decided to completely strip it down and give it a full mechanical refresh, along with some personal touches.

It now runs a Shimano Deore drivetrain, original Specialized wheels, a Selle Italia Turbo saddle, and Schwalbe Billy Bonkers tires. I kept the original paint, which had too much character to repaint. I touched up a few rust-prone spots with matching paint to prevent further corrosion, then polished the entire frame to bring back its original shine.

Every single component was cleaned and polished by hand, piece by piece. It was a long but rewarding process. I also ordered a new set of decals to replace the worn originals and get it looking as close as possible to how it would’ve rolled out of the shop in '89.

I documented the process along the way, from the bare frame to the cleaned-up parts and finally the finished build. I’m really happy with how it turned out and wanted to share it with fellow vintage MTB fans. Happy to hear your thoughts or suggestions!
