Looking for some insights on Gatorskins durability. Have a new rear tyre from LBS a year ago. Noted new damage to the tyre this evening likely from the rim brakes locking up recently.
My main concern is the damage to the contact surface of the tyre as in the attached photos. I can’t appreciate any thread or inner tube thankfully nor side wall damage.
I know I likely need a new tyre but till I can (nights on the cards next week) and the only sunny day I’ve managed to get in Ireland being tmrw, I’m hoping I can still clock up kms
Bike: Giant 2019 Propel Carbon Frame
Brakes: Rim
Tyres: Conti Gatorskins due to road conditions where I lived a year ago
Thoughts welcome !

It’s fine
Gatorskins come in 2 layers with a layer of mesh in between. Gatorskin Hardshell comes with 3 layers.
You have a few scratches, the tire has plenty of life left. Look at my tire missing chunks. Plenty life left.

Back in my sick fixie days we only rode Gatorskins or Armadillos and would shred the crap out of them skidding the rear tire. They’d still hold up for years of that kind of abuse.
