April Bikepacking Adventure | Christchurch to 9 Barrow Down via Castlemain Trail & Arne | Wild Bivvy & Camp Cooking
Come along on a stunning April bikepacking trip across Dorset, starting from Christchurch and weaving through the Castlemain Trail to Wareham, where I stop for a well-earned pint at the quay. From there, I continue the journey across Arne Nature Reserve, climbing up to 9 Barrow Down, one of the most atmospheric and historic spots along the Dorset Ridgeway.
On the trail, I meet Bob, a fellow adventurer travelling on foot. We share stories, set up our bivvy bags amongst ancient Bronze Age barrows, and cook a rich and smoky paella over a camp stove—a perfect reward after a long day’s ride.
Under a blanket of stars, we enjoy a peaceful wild camp in the hills. At first light, we brew coffee and prepare a hearty camp breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toast, surrounded by the serene landscape of rural Dorset.
If you’re into UK bikepacking, Dorset wild camping, or love camp cooking and bivvy life, this film captures the simple beauty of microadventures in the British countryside.

[Music] Not quite as controllable as an induction hob, but the next piece of kit solar powered induction hob way now. Uh, well, you’re done now, aren’t you? I should have got it out earlier, Bob. Shouldn’t I? Make sure you’ve got loads. Wow. This is a bit special, isn’t it? Got Oh gosh, this looks absolutely first class. So, we got nine barrerow, scrambled egg, and smoked salmon. Very good.
