Yeah, that’s compromised. It may last forever, or it may let go on the next hill you’re bombing down.

What the hell did you hit? I’ve seen videos of people trying to smash carbon rims on purpose and couldn’t do this much damage

I wouldn’t have ridden those wheels when they were brand new and you shouldn’t ride that one now.

  4. I personally wouldn’t ride that even in the rear. You may be able to get a new rim and have the wheel relaced. You need to get the same rim from so that the spoke lengths are the same.

Since it’s disc rear wheel and relatively small damage I would give it a chance to repair it on a shop. I suppose some epoxy and clamping some layers would get the job done. If you’re a light rider will let you use lower pressure and always with tube.

Done for. But repairable if you can get it to original shape and geometry. I did a similar repair where I bought a very high grade hard epoxy and filled in gaps and pressurized the tire to about 50 psi with wax paper between tire and epoxy so that my tire would not get epoxied to rim. I used the tire to pressurize the system so the repair would cure under a state of moderate stress. Worked like a charm. Background: I’m a mechanical engineer

Some companies can offer a replacement for a discount as part of the warranty. Give em a call

Yeah, those are done. You could try a repair but would you trust them? I wouldn’t.

  9. Replace it with a cheaper aluminum wheel that won’t hurt so much should it end up like that. Unless you have cash to burn of course.

Toast, but many brands offer free or reduced price replacements. I’d take it back to the shop and ask about options.

  11. Superteam? Did the same thing to my rear which I demoted to trainer only duty. I was going across a train crossing and wasn’t paying attention. One of the 8×8 or whatever wood beams they use to fill in between the track and pavement on some crossings was just gone and I didn’t notice in time. I was able to lift my front wheel but slammed rear into the rail. BAM!!!!!!! and I new instantly from the sound it was bad. Took me awhile to find the spot with the tire still on and holding air fine but you could it feel that the carbon had de-laminated.

  12. Did the same to a carbon wheel. Took it to a carbon repair shop and it’s still good.

  13. Are carbon rims really worth it? Can’t imagine them being that much lighter to notice

This is why I buy reserve, Bontrager or Reynolds wheels. This would be a free or very cheap replacement from the manufacturer so long as you can relace the new hoops

  15. Potholes. The car gods leave the smaller ones for us cyclists. I’ve not been able to repair mine but would be curious to know what’s possible and the costs
