Roadworks on Chapel Street in Salford have turned into a ghost town – after days of traffic chaos.

The year-long scheme along Chapel Street is causing huge problems for drivers. The roadworks consist of new bike lanes, pedestrian areas, and spaces for buses on Chapel Street in what it calls a ‘complete streets approach to rebalance the space in favour of pedestrians and cyclists’.

The major road has been closed since last Monday (May 5). But the temporary lights scheme around one of the city’s busiest junctions on Blackfriars Street resulted in days of gridlock for frustrated motorists, with some claiming they were stuck for hours.

When we returned today, however, the streets were empty, with hardly any traffic about.
