Just picked up this NOS 96 Specialized Hardrock for a steal. Never been ridden, apparently forgotten about in the back of a bike shop. Need someone to tell me it’s okay to swap some parts and ride the shit out of it.

Holy mackerel this thing is MINT. That said, swap whatever you want and ride the *mess* out of it! Just don’t do anything to it you can’t undo… just my opinion!
I have the same bike that I am about to take for a ride. I bought mine from someone who had abandoned it in the back of their garage and it was basically unridden. It was a great ride unchanged and then I got enthusiastic and there aren’t a lot of original components left, actually there are none. I will post a picture of it later.
I even raced it as a single speed in cyclocross with some success in the old man category.
Hope you really enjoy it and have fun turning it into whatever you want.
