I’ve been progressively trying different sized tires to see if I can get a 40mmto clear the rear chainstays of my old cross bike. These Conti Terra’s are doing pretty well.
I took the bike to a shop to get trued, but it can back with pretty much the same wobble. The tire is fully seated. Is something else going on? Did the mechanic play me? Or am I delusional?
Basically, I want to know if there is anything else I can tweak before giving up and sticking with my 35mm tires. It’s a CX bike, not a gravel bike 🥲

Truing a wheel is done without tyre.
Tape a chopstick to your chainstay close to the rim and see if it rubs as it rotates around. Could be your tire if the rim is true.
Tires can have defects and wobble.
That’s not enough clearance. When riding, the wheel is going to flex slightly and rub your frame. Add some small stones when riding gravel and you will chip the frame even more
You should be looking at the rim, not the tire, to determine whether or not it’s true.
Definitely not enough clearance. Always assume it will go out of true during a rough ride. If you want bigger tires, time for another frame.
