Because people will buy it. Also, as the article itself points out, Campag has made a 13 speed groupset since 2020.

For my next trick, I will respond “because the market bears it” to a question of why something is so “overpriced.”

  2. Yeah, we’ve had 13 speed for a few years now. And it’s fantastic. If you can, try out Campagnolo Ekar – much cheaper than this too.

I will admit the case for 13 speed is better with Ekar on a 1×13 system (smaller jumps for fewer overall gears) but, when it’s perfectly robust, why leave it out of a road set?

Top spec cycling groupsets are not an area of necessity. Nobody is pretending you NEED 13 cogs.

You’ll have to pry the thumb shifters from my cold dead thumbs….

  4. Your same logic can be used against you. If 13 is too much, 12 is unnecessary… Why are you riding a 3 speed, or 2 speed or just a single speed?

  5. Campagnolo haters when the company tries to play it safe: lame, behind the times, give up already

Campag haters when they try something new in the incredibly mature field of bike groupsets or try to address flaws in their products:
Nobody needs this, overkill, why go beyond 11, 90s shifting was best anyway

  6. I understand more and more cogs as a way to try to make 1x work, as currently on my SRAM 1×12 it’s manageable but I wish I had just a bit tighter spacing. That said, I feel like the 1x push is more of a SRAM specific thing but idk.

I am new to Campy with SR12 stuff and I had to get used to the thumb buttons. I would really miss them now! It’s especially cool to sneak your pinky out from the bar tops and grab a gear or two.
