Before I start making my way down to Italy, I did one last test ride to dial in suspension pressures and see how the rig handles. And then I stopped in a park for some glamor shots. Below are a few final thoughts:
- I recently added the front rack–absolutely the correct decision. Before I was carrying everything in the back and the bike was too unwieldly.
- With all that extra weight, it SUCKS trying to get up to speed and coming to a stop.
- But god damn the extra momentum on flats and, especially, downhill is amazing!
- I get some weird speed wobbles descending offroad. All that mountain bike stability is gone. (Maybe next year I'll take a trail bike.)
- I'm still undecided about taking the Tailfin seat pack. It's currently empty and just added weight. But maybe it'll be nice when I'm trying to pack up camp and still delirious from yesterday's ride. And it works great as a rear fender.

When do you start? I’m in the first wave on the 21st. Come and see us at r/tuscanytrail where we’ve been posting a few of our bikes, so we may recognise each other. 🙂
