I’ve been on this train a while. Some of the most fun, playful, poppy-feeling bikes have been xc rigs. Enduro-style bikes are great for blowing through chunky terrain but the fun part for me is moving the bike around and being smooth.

Then ride steeper lines on the enduro 🙂

Do you think this is primarily because of the shorter wheelbase?

You gotta get off that flow trail.

Depends on the trail, but on stuff like that absolutely the short travel bike is the way.
But on long, steep and really rough trails, that extra travel keeps you fresh and charging hard. There just are a lot fewer of those trails out there.

Ride faster. Popping around trail features on mid travel bike is fun too though.

Yep they’re more fun on the right trails. For me it’s hard to have fun with anything less than 150. It’s all sharp rocks and roots on my local and it beats you up.

What trail is this? It looks familiar. Maybe somewhere at Raging?

What’s the travel sweet spot? I’ve had 100mm, 140, 120, and 130 rear travel, the 140/140 is my most fun bike, I ride w pressure as if I was 20 pounds heavier than I am, otherwise it’s too boingy

Just bought another 100/100 xc bc my 140/130 stumpy feels a bit too capable on my local trails and a whole lot like peddling tank on anything but uphill??
